AKA Swedish Chocolate Balls…my Swedish friend, Malena, turned me onto these. A super simple, delicious, no-bake treat that every Swede knows about. They are SO addicting! You can roll them in all kinds of delicious toppings like coconut, powdered sugar, or sprinkles. I think the yummiest topping is Swedish pearl sugar. You can get it at IKEA.


4 cups regular rolled oats
1 1/4 cups white sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup butter, softened
2 tablespoons strong coffee
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate, melted
Salt to taste
Toppings: coconut flakes, sprinkles, crushed peppermint candy, pearl sugar, powdered sugar, cocoa powder


  1. Mix the oats, sugar, and cocoa together in a bowl. Add the butter, and use your hands to mix the ingredients together to make a thick dough. Mix in the coffee, vanilla, and chocolate until thoroughly blended. Taste the dough and add a little salt if needed.
  2. Pinch off small amounts of dough and roll between your hands to make small balls, about 1-1/2 inches in diameter. Roll the balls in toppings of your choice. Balls are ready to eat, or may be refrigerated for a couple hours to make them more firm.

Makes about 48 balls.
